Since the beginning of the year, sales of sporting goods at Wildberries and Ozon have nearly tripled to 26.2 million units. The growth is associated, among other things, with the closure of Adidas, Nike and Reebok stores, Vedomosti reported with reference to Moneyplace.

Sporting goods sales tripled at Wildberries and Ozon

From January to May, sales of sporting goods at Ozon grew 3.5 times in terms of volume compared to the same period last year. Wildberries only provided data for the first quarter. Here, sales of sporting goods, clothing, and piece foods nearly doubled during this time. And in monetary terms, a twofold increase was recorded, up to 11 billion rubles.

Most often during this time the Russians bought sportswear - the growth of money amounted to 3.3 billion rubles. This year, several startups have already pushed foreign manufacturers into the top sellers on the sites. For example, in Ozon, instead of the American New Balance, the top 7 now includes the Uzbek Uzcotton, as well as the Russian Opt-Moda and April.

In the markets, sales of goods for recreation and tourism tripled, to 3.1 billion rubles, and exercise machines were the least purchased, at 6 billion rubles.

The Russians became interested in sporting goods only in the second quarter of the year, before the demand fell by 15-20%. For sports equipment and apparel, buyers flocked to online platforms. In offline stores, sales decreased by 8-9%.
