TASS correspondents in Istanbul and Ankara were convinced of this. They write that when trying to withdraw any amount from local ATMs, the terminals display a notification about a technical error. In some cases, the ATM writes that the card is not being serviced.
TASS also reports on a similar situation in UAE banks. Gazprombank cards are not compatible with Emirates NBD, Abu Dhabi Commercial Bank and Abu Dhabi Islamic Bank. Problems with card service are also observed in Thailand, Germany, Hungary, Vietnam, Kazakhstan, Qatar, Uzbekistan, Tunisia, South Korea, South Africa, India, Argentina, Egypt, etc.
Previously, the US Treasury, in a new package of anti-Russian sanctions, imposed a ban on the activities of Gazprombank. The credit institution warned customers in advance about possible problems with UnionPay cards abroad.
The cards are disconnected from the international payment system, withdrawals and purchases with these cards are not available, and information about such a service as the issuance of debit cards from the UnionPay system has disappeared from the bank’s website, RBC writes. Kommersant analyzes how to act in such a situation (first withdraw cash and then look for counterparty banks in other sanctioned countries, as an option).
