Quantum bits, or qubits, are extremely sensitive, leading to errors in calculations. Using machine learning, the Google team created an artificial intelligence system that can find these errors faster and more accurately than existing methods. The new algorithm, called AlphaQubit, was trained on a Sycamore quantum computer using 49 qubits and a quantum simulator that produced millions of error samples.

The results showed that AlphaQubit significantly improved error correction processes. Performance increased by 6% on slower but accurate tests, and performance increased by 30% on faster but less accurate tests. Additionally, the system copes with large amounts of data by processing up to 241 qubits, exceeding all expectations.
