Developers will also be required to label games with warnings about inappropriate content, including violence, profanity or elements that could cause panic or fear.
The bill, developed by MPs and senators, provides for mandatory identification for all gaming platforms, regardless of country of origin. This means that platforms that do not integrate with Russian systems, such as Steam and GOG, will not comply with the requirements and may be banned.
Industry experts say the decision is extreme. A voluntary system for tagging gaming content already exists in Russia. Local developers fear the new rules will impose additional costs on them and that foreign companies may bypass these requirements.
