Despite the incredible progress that has been made in Linux gaming in recent years, the developers of ARK: Survival Evolved at Instinct Games have decided to drop support for the native Linux version of the game.
What is the reason for such annoyance for Linux gamers is not yet known, because for a long time the native Linux version of ARK: Survival Evolved was considered a benchmark in the Linux gaming environment and did not contain any critical issues. However, gamers were outraged not only by the cancellation of the native Linux version of the game, but also by how the developers notified fans about it. Instinct Games did not announce the cancellation of the Linux version on the Steam page, but limited itself to some hidden messages on their forum.

Steam Proton has been enabled by default in ARK: Survival Evolved for Steam Linux players, including full BattlEye support. The Linux version of the game has been moved to the Beta section. If you have any issues with the Proton version of the game, please let us know in this thread and we’ll work with Valve (Steam) to resolve it as soon as possible.

However, given the significant progress Valve has made on Proton with Battleye and the recent demo of ARK: Survival Evolved on the Steam Deck, it’s safe to say that getting and running the game on Linux will still be possible, albeit through the layer of Proton.
