Surface Duo, released by Microsoft in 2020, Android 10 installed, but since then some users dual screen mobile phone is trying to run Windows on the device. One of them is the developer Gustave Monce, famous for his experiments involving the system for PCs running on smartphones.
(10) In his most recent study, published on Sunday, the expert managed to run Windows 11 on Microsoft’s first-generation dual-screen phone, with some restrictions. The project is an update of the version released at the beginning of the year, when it was possible to launch the operating system on a mobile device.
According to Monce, the new build has enabled various features on the mobile such as Wi-Fi connections and mobile networks so that the device can connect to the internet. Support for virtual chip (eSIM) and GPS is also enabled in the new firmware.
It claims to be able to use the Surface Duo’s chat app to send and receive text messages from Microsoft’s software, connect the device to wireless accessories via Bluetooth, and use the side buttons. The project also includes running Windows 10 on the phone.
Known Issues
Despite the improvements added in the update, running Windows 11 on the Surface Duo can still be problematic if the user wants a mobile phone for daily use. It currently does not allow making calls or using cameras.
It also has issues with graphics rendering and screen orientation, as well as inability to connect to certain USB devices, among other bugs that can hinder its use. According to the developer, some of these bugs will be fixed in the next updates.
