Tesla reported a decline in sales for the first time in history.
The company shipped 1.79 million vehicles worldwide in 2024, down 1% from 1.81 million electric vehicles delivered in 2023.
85,133 of these vehicles delivered are classified as “other models”. This includes Model S, Model X and Cybertruck. In other words, the bulk of the cars sold are Model 3 and Model Y.
The Cybertruck was the company’s first new model since 2020, but even it failed to increase overall sales.
Tesla also reported that it sold a record 495,000 electric vehicles in the fourth quarter of 2024.
Tesla’s sales decline is due to several factors. Firstly, the company’s lineup began to impress, as many cars did not receive major updates.
Secondly, competitors, especially Chinese ones, have released many new electric vehicles that cost less than Tesla cars.
Also, some clients may have been put off by the fact that Elon Musk supported Donald Trump and began to pay more attention to politics. [The Wall Street Journal]
