After TikTok was banned by the US Supreme Court, representatives of the video service say they will stop operating completely on January 19 if the outgoing Joe Biden administration does not offer guarantees that the announced measures will not apply to the social network. At the same time, Donald Trump promises users to personally control the situation of the service.

“If the Biden administration does not immediately provide a final statement to satisfy the most critical service providers [поддерживающих доступность TikTok в США]assuring them that no action will be taken; Unfortunately, TikTok will be forced to close on January 19,” RBC quotes the company.

On January 18, the court unanimously approved a law banning TikTok in a country where half the population (170 million people) uses the service. The parent company must sell the service to any US company “to address legitimate national security concerns related to TikTok’s data collection practices and its relationship with a foreign adversary.”

Despite the company’s promises not to share the information it collects with the Chinese government, even if Beijing demands it, U.S. regulators are pushing for the sale. And previously, former US Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and billionaire Frank McCourt were already interested in the purchase, and there were also rumors about the possible sale of TikTok to Elon Musk.

Donald Trump, who will take office as president on January 20, personally promised to keep the situation under control and try to “save” TikTok by increasing the deadline for finding a buyer to between 60 and 90 days, as The Washington Post writes. Joe Biden’s administration has not yet commented on the TikTok comments.
