As the Federal Forestry Agency (Rosleskhoz) reported to TASS, on the eve of the New Year holidays, 176.6 thousand coniferous trees were sold in Russia, 19% less than in 2023.
“Citizens prefer artificial fir trees,” summarized Roslesjoz press secretary Daria Abramova.
At the same time, in a conversation with the agency, the general director of the Russian environmental operator Denis Butsaev said that artificial fir trees are better than live ones in terms of practicality and durability, but not in terms of environmental friendliness.
The specialist highlighted that artificial Christmas trees are mainly made of polyvinyl chloride (PVC), a material that is difficult to recycle.
“Buying live New Year trees is less harmful to the environment. They can subsequently be transformed into secondary raw materials using various crushers, crushers and crushers,” Butsayev said.
