The Deepseek AI model is considered competitive with the latest Openai developments and is much cheaper to develop. This has sent shares of Chinese tech companies like Iflytek racing and falling at the expense of shares of lawyer makers, which may suffer from reduced demand for AI accelerators from Nvidia, for example.
Investor Mark Andrissen called Deepseek “one of the most impressive breakthroughs” and noted the transparency of its AI. The app showed how it responds to user requests and displays its thoughts and solutions. This approach was highly appreciated in reviews on Apple and Google platforms.
Founded by Lyan Wenfan, Deepseek uses an open AI model that is forcing major American companies to reconsider the billions spent on the development of AI systems. Although the development and energy consumption cost of this model has not yet been disclosed, Deepseek claims that its cost is only a small fraction of Openai’s costs.
