Limpable discounts include traffic lights, Chizhik, yes! and others. In Russia, the format began to develop later than in other countries, said the newspaper. According to Mikhail Burmistrov, general director of Infoline Analytics, the impetus for its appearance was the desire of customers for rational consumption in the context of constant prices growth.
The experts interviewed by Kommersant explained that consumers have become more inclined in the last five years, the negative market and the social factors that followed the Covid-19 pandemic influenced this. Discounts income, experts say, grow 2.5 times faster than other store formats.
According to Infoline analysts, the proportion of hard discounts amounted to 5.61% of all retail products in 2024. The company states that this is almost three times more than in 2018, when the format began to gain impulse in Russia. Analysts believe that the trend will remain in 2025: the participation of the market format will reach 5.9%and 2029 – 8.4%.
- In early February, Kommersant, citing “Infoline Analyst”, wrote that “traffic lights” began to close massively throughout the country. The reason for this was Rospotrebnadzor’s statements related to violations of health legislation. Since December, according to Infoline analysts, more than 200 stores have been closed.
