In Perm Polytechnic, a solution was found on the problem of processing acoustic interferometer data. These devices measure how effectively the materials absorb sound waves and are actively used in aviation, construction and medicine. Previously, foreign programs were required for the analysis of unreachable licenses in Russia. To fill this gap, scientists have created a new Python software working on any computer.

Acoustic interferometer consists of a pipe, dynamic and microphones. It is placed in the material, then the device forms sound waves that are absorbed and some are reflected. All of these are fixed by the microphones and the program calculates the sound absorption coefficient. The new module of Perm polytechnicine replaces the functions of foreign analogs. Scientists say that their development gives the same correct results as the famous Bruel & Kjaer program, but without the need to get an expensive license.

The program is already used in training courses and research. Their abilities are universal: Allows you to analyze the quality of sound insulation materials, define defects in composites, control the purity of rocket fuel, and even discover the acoustic properties of the tissues in medicine. Due to its accessibility, the new development will be useful not only for students and scientists, but also by experts in other areas where the sector is important.
