At Baylor College of Medicine, Dr. James McDevitt shared what to do if you get caught in a hurricane.

The first thing you need to do is make a plan. And you must do it now, when the hurricane is not yet. People who cannot move independently or are not dependent on any device should determine where to expect the hurricane. It is best for such people to leave the hurricane zone as one of the first.

At the same time, you need to have some important things on hand. This is two or three days of clean water, additional prescription drugs. If a person has chronic diseases, he should take all the necessary drugs, which will take five to seven days, but if he has a disease that requires a special diet (diabetes, borderline congestive heart failure) you should definitely take it. Consider the appropriate food.

It is also important to have a first aid kit nearby. The band-aid should contain antibiotic ointment, over-the-counter diarrhea medications, and sterile gauze.

A backup power supply for a smartphone, additional batteries and a radio do not interfere, so that you are always in touch.

News cannot be equated with a doctor’s prescription. Consult an expert before making a decision.
