Yandex decided to transfer the development of technologies for the development of unmanned taxis and delivery robots from Russia to Israel. This was reported by Kommersant, citing a source from the company’s specialized division.

Yandex plans to move development of drones and delivery robots to Israel

Now “Yandex” is discussing naming options for the new structure. Suggestions include roovvy.ai, avride.ai, and avnear.ai.

Also, the Yandex team, which is responsible for the development of drones, began to transfer its processes from domestic platforms to foreign services. In particular, the specialists plan to replace the internal Startrack task manager with YouTrack or Jira, and transfer the system code of the project from the internal Yandex repository to GitHub.

Yandex employees expect to complete the necessary transfers by mid-September.

The company itself refused to tell the publication whether the avride.ai and avnear.ai domains belong to Yandex. The company representative only assured that all the source code and technology of the unmanned vehicles will remain in Russia.

“In some foreign markets, we use external cloud services, as many countries have legislation requiring local data to be stored on their territory. Now we are looking at new geographies, for example Serbia,” Yandex said.
