Previous research has helped determine how cats should be treated. In particular, you should choose certain places for caress and give the animal more freedom. A new study has shown that self-identified “cat lovers” tend to pet cats in places where they are not very comfortable, giving pets less freedom.

Approximately 120 volunteers participated in the study, who each spent five minutes in the shelter with three cats. Participants also filled out a questionnaire in which they evaluated their experience with pets. It turned out that people who consider themselves more experienced and understanding in dealing with animals are more likely to touch the tails, paws, backs and bottoms of their abdomens in areas that are uncomfortable for pets. Cats usually prefer strokes in the ear, cheek and chin area. Also, “cat people” gave animals less freedom when interacting.

The researchers noted that each cat is, of course, individual, but there are general principles that must be followed to ensure maximum comfort for the animal.
