Casio has launched a pair of new sports watches made from biomass plastic created from materials such as castor wood and corn. As explained in the Casio G-Central blog, case, strap and case back of Pro Trek PRW-6611Y-1 and PRW-6621Y-1 are made of this material.

This is not the first time we have seen movements in this sense. In February of this year, Garmin launched a solar-powered sports smartwatch that promised a near-infinite battery.

This movement makes a lot of sense and is one of the smartest uses for bioplastics that has so much to offer without polluting the environment. Unfortunately, using this material may not be as useful as it seems.

The problem is that bioplastics can refers to materials made from vegetable raw materials (like those used by Casio) or biodegradable plastic which can be destroyed by bacteria.

Not all plastics made from plant materials are biodegradable.and not all biodegradable plastics are made from vegetables.

The type of plastic used by Casio is not biodegradable. but that’s not a problem, as the Pro Trek PRW-6611Y-1 and PRW-6621Y-1 are rugged watches built to last for years to come.therefore its biodegradation is not important.

Like PRW-1, The two new green G-Shock watches use photovoltaic cells to maintain their batteries.waterproof to a depth of 100 meters and equipped with fully automatic LED lighting.

They also offer world time, a stopwatch, five programmable alarms, and sensors including an altimeter, barometer, and thermometer. At the moment, they are only available in Japan for 57,200 yen (about 400 euros per exchange).. Will we see them in Spain?
