Last Thursday (25), LastPass password management service announced that criminals had hacked the platform, and stole some of the company’s source code. After all, the company confirmed that customer data was not stolen and remains intact.

The activity was spotted a few weeks ago through a compromised account of a LastPass developer. Thus, the malicious person managed to steal some of the source code of the service and still collect proprietary technical information from the company.

“Two weeks ago, we detected unusual activity in parts of the LastPass development environment. After promptly launching an investigation, we saw no evidence that this incident involved any access to customer data or encrypted password vaults.”

While customer information remains secure, the stolen data could be used for future attempts to hack the password management service. According to Last Pass CEO Karim Toubba, a leading cybersecurity and forensics firm has been hired to help strengthen the service.

In December, criminals attempted to steal LastPass customers’ personal data through a credential stuffing attack. Fortunately, the company said no information was compromised.
