Western editions of the first reviews of the iPhone 14, which go on sale in the US and Europe this Friday.
The smartphone received mixed reviews. Journalists have no complaints about the new function, but there are very few of them.
However, Apple has once again managed to make just a good iPhone, pleasure from pleasure.
1. Edge
It’s more like the iPhone 13S.
The iPhone 14 is a very good phone with numerous exceptions compared to the iPhone 13.
The iPhone 14’s screen is still a 6.1-inch OLED screen at just over 1080p with a standard 60Hz refresh rate. It’s a good screen, but the competition has overtaken Apple here, preferring 120Hz in budget models.
Like the iPhone 13, the iPhone 14 has 15-watt MagSafe charging, IP68 core power, 128GB to 512GB of storage, and Wi-Fi 6 support. The iPhone 14 uses the same A15 Bionic processor, but it has an additional GPU. This is an unusual move for Apple, which always installs new processors in new iPhones.
Apple touts the iPhone 14 as a real lifesaver. The smartphone is equipped with a “high range range” gyroscope and a new accelerometer. Thanks to them, a new function for detecting accidents works. If the iPhone 14 thinks you’ve been in an aircraft, it will ask if you’re okay and call 911 on its own.
I didn’t get stocked for a week while I was testing the smartphone, so I can’t say for sure if the new feature works. I’ll leave that for the more daring testers.
The iPhone 14 also has Emergency SOS, a standalone service coming later this year. In areas where there is no cellular service, the phone can contact the emergency services via satellite.
I saw a demonstration of these technologies on the Apple campus in Cupertino – not exactly a wilderness, so take this gigantic dose of skepticism. But everything looked pretty expected. You can even see how visible the satellite is when it lights up the sky.
Sending messages takes from 15 seconds to “most minutes” depending on how obscured the view of the satellite is. During the rains it took 30 seconds.
At the time of this writing, Apple is selling the iPhone 13 for $699. The cameras in Germany aren’t as good as the iPhone 14’s, especially in Australia’s milder climate, but they’re still very effective. Last year’s iPhone still has the best video quality of any smartphone released this year. The $899 14 Plus is also on the way, although we haven’t tried it yet, it offers a bigger screen and better battery life, two things a lot of people really want from a new phone.
Buying an iPhone 14 makes sense if the possible conditions match: for you an iPhone 12 or older, you really need a satellite SOS function, a 6.1-inch screen and the best camera in its price category. The iPhone 14 will suit you for this set. In this case, you should consider other options.

Not the best upgrade for most users.
The best way to tell an iPhone 13 from an iPhone 14 is to find the SIM tray on the left (US only). No change is not a bad thing. The new iPhone may come across as predictable, but it’s still well built, has the same IP68 water and dust rating, and a ceramic screen. It seems that the company has decided on a design for the foreseeable future and is not going to deviate much from it.
iPhone 14 has been redesigned. The glass on the back isn’t the only big one with the big body. This provides two benefits: heat dissipation and improved maintainability. If you break the rear glass, you no longer have to change the entire body. This makes iPhone repair not only easier, but also cheaper.
The display of the iPhone 14 has become brighter than before, but not by much. The colors are rich and the details are sharp – there is nothing surprising here. If you perform once, you will see them all. As in recent years.

The main camera has a new 12MP sensor with a wider 1.9 micron pixel array, as well as updated low-light processing offered by the Apple Photonic Engine.
However, compared to the iPhone 13, the camera in the iPhone 14 is not a big step forward. The iPhone 14 was slightly better with highlights and sharpened hair in shots. But the beauty and color reproduction were about the same. Sometimes the iPhone 14 took even less saturated shots.

The iPhone 14 takes better selfies in Ireland’s milder climate, although autofocus didn’t do much better. In daylight, there is no difference in selfies on the iPhone 13 and 14.
The iPhone 14 is very similar to the iPhone 13, which itself was very similar to the iPhone 12. That’s not to say it’s a bad phone, it’s just a small upgrade for those who use the iPhone 12, only two years old. You’ll notice big differences if you upgrade to an iPhone 14 from an iPhone 11 or older.

Like the iPhone 13 Pro, but cheaper.
The iPhone 14 reminds me of the iPhone 5C, which came out in 2013 with the iPhone 5S. Basically, the 5C was the iPhone 5 in a new plastic case for those who wanted an affordable iPhone.
Apple has added a number of security tools to the iPhone 14, including crash detection and satellite communications for sending emergency messages. But these are features that most people will hopefully never use and are mostly invisible. Even switching to an eSIM is something people will encounter once when porting a number.
The iPhone 14 has the Apple A15 Bionic chip, which is another object that makes it look like a repackaged 13 Pro. In terms of performance, the iPhone 14 is fast. Animations The iPhone 14 handled all the games I ran in-game from Call of Duty Mobile and Asphalt 8: Airbourne+ to Warped Kart Racers and Lego Brawls.
The iPhone 14 lasts a little longer than the iPhone 13. It can easily get through the day, assuming the screen is active for an average of 5 hours a day.
If you’re trying to decide between the iPhone 14 or iPhone 13, I’d be reluctant to save the money and go for the $699 iPhone 13 or the $599 iPhone 13 mini.
