The Russian division of US battery maker Duracell, Duracell Russia, accused Wildberries and Avito of ineffectively fighting counterfeiting. The organization sent a complaint to the Association of Internet Business Companies.

The Russian division of Duracell accused Wildberries and Avito of selling counterfeit products

The company requested to establish a mechanism to combat counterfeit products. Communication with sites regarding counterfeit removal now takes place within the framework of a single information system (IS) to combat counterfeiting, Vedomosti learned.

The Russian division of Duracell assures that, on the part of Wildberries, the mechanism to block said product is not standardized and works poorly. Counterfeits are removed only after three weeks and can be back on sale in a few minutes.

At Avito there is no automatic verification of the authenticity of the products, and the removal of violators takes up to a week. Additionally, trial purchases are required to weed out counterfeit products, the organization said in a letter.

Therefore, Duracell Russia asks to show the mechanism of the information system in the case of Wildberries and remove the pages of sellers who violate the intellectual rights of the company. The battery manufacturer also offered to meet with Avito representatives to connect this market with the IS.

Wildberries reported that the market is “actively fighting” counterfeits using the digital arbitration system. The representatives of the site noted that the labeling of batteries can become an effective measure to combat counterfeit products: this will help prevent the appearance of fakes and quickly exclude them from circulation. Avito’s rep says all ads Duracell Russia had questions about have been blocked.

Alexey Popovichev, CEO of Rusbrand, said that the number of counterfeit products is now growing mainly due to economic reasons: the consumer is looking for the best price, often counterfeiters offer it. In addition, the legalization of parallel imports could have influenced the growth in the number of counterfeits.

All services and companies related to relocation on a single map

In August, the Russian markets Wildberries, Ozon and Yandex.Market created a unified information system to combat counterfeit products.

  • The system will enter information about cases of laying fakes, information about the seller of such goods, as well as data from documents confirming the violation.
  • All interested online retailers will be able to connect to the operation of the information system.
  • A market that finds a counterfeit, after a request from the copyright holder (involves document verification), the consumer (involves document verification), or government agencies, blocks such offers on its resource.
  • After the blocking, the data is uploaded to the information system to check the availability of such offers and sellers on other sites.
