Retailer X5 Group may buy a stake in the Far Eastern retail chain Samberi, Kommersant reports, citing sources.
According to the publication’s interlocutors, the X5 Group admits that the deal with Samberi may be similar to that of the Slata and Krasny Yar networks. Previously, the FAS approved the purchase of X5 Group for 70% of these networks.
Samberi hypermarkets operate in the Khabarovsk and Primorsky Territories, as well as in the Amur and Jewish Autonomous Regions. Interest in partnering with the network was previously shown by Magnit and Lenta, one of the publication’s sources added. Magnit confirmed that they are studying the prospects for entering the Far Eastern market.
According to experts, retailers wishing to work in the Far East will face difficulties in finding quality premises for stores, as well as logistical difficulties.
In September, X5 Group signed an agreement with the Far East and Arctic Development Corporation and announced plans to invest 10 billion rubles to develop stores in the region.
