Roskomnadzor demanded that the Scratch programming service change the registration system for Russian users, leaving only two gender options: male and female. This is stated in the department’s message.
According to the RKN, the Scratch educational service at the registration stage offers users “several options for choosing a genre, including those that do not correspond to traditional Russian values.”
“Roskomnadzor addressed the administration of the educational Internet service Scratch with a notification about the need to change the data set collected during the registration of Russian users,” the message says.
Currently, when creating a new account, Scratch asks you to answer several questions, one of which is “What is your gender?” – Five response options are offered: “feminine”, “masculine”, “non-binary”, “prefer not to speak” and a field for free input of the response.
Scratch is a kids and teens programming community and programming language with a simple visual interface. It can be used to create digital stories, games, and animations.
The service is free and available in more than 70 languages.
