Information about the closure of accounts with the Bank of Georgia was confirmed to Kommersant by an official representative of the bank. According to him, the bank closed the accounts of a certain category of clients, regardless of their citizenship.

According to various sources, the accounts of more than 100 people were blocked. The reasons were called different, for example, the transfer or withdrawal of funds from the account using cryptocurrency.
The bank representative did not mention the reason why the accounts were closed, citing the bank’s internal policy rules and the local regulator’s instruction on the right of banks to close accounts without explaining the reasons.
