The recommendations were made by dermatologist and associate professor at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston. Shared by Vicky Zhen Ren. Here they are:

  1. Use ointment or cream, not lotion. Apply creams after a shower or bath to retain moisture.

  2. Use lukewarm water instead of hot water in the shower or bath. Limit their intake to five to ten minutes.

  3. Install a humidifier in your home.

  4. Wear clothes that protect your skin from wind and cold.

  5. Creams containing urea, lactic acid, ammonium lactate, or alpha hydroxy acid may be beneficial for thick or flaky skin. However, they can also cause irritation.
