Joshua Browder, the founder of DoNotPay, broke the news that he was literally banned from running an AI lawyer project that could help people who have their own rights in court. Interestingly, the ban is legally justified.
As Browder wrote, a representative of the bar associations of several states in the United States terrorized him, threatening him. But not out of addiction or fear that AI could take them out of their jobs, but because DoNotPay “violates the laws of these states.” It’s simple – AI does not have a lawyer’s license, conducting unauthorized legal practice is a direct narcotics. But, since the application cannot be put in danger, they threaten to send its creator and owner.
It’s one thing when people use AI services while preparing for the trial – in such cases it is tantamount to reading. But Browder wanted to put a client’s smartphone with a personalized app in his pocket and give him headphones so that the AI could feel normal in court and give time advice. But who authorized him to do so? Browder did not ask for permission to conduct such an experiment, and it is unlikely that he would have received it.
