Shares of Google parent company Alphabet plunged 8.9% after chatbot Bard made a mistake during a presentation.
Reuters drew attention to the inaccuracy. In the commercial, Bard was asked, “What new discoveries from the James Webb Space Telescope can I tell my nine-year-old son?”
In response, the Google chatbot offered several options, one of which turned out to be incorrect. Bard said that James Webb had taken the first images of planets and exoplanets outside the solar system.
At the same time, the Very Large Telescope (VLT) presented the first images of exoplanets in 2004.
“This highlights the importance of the rigorous testing process we are launching this week with our Trusted Testers program,” Google said after the incident.
The fact that Bard can compete with the OpenAi ChatGPT chat bot was announced by Google earlier this month. The main advantage of the product over ChatGPT in the enterprise is Bard’s ability to gather up-to-date information from the Internet. ChatGPT, on the other hand, was trained on data published before 2021.
In the context of the popularity of the OpenAi product, some large corporations have started to develop their chatbots based on neural networks. Among them are the Russian Yandex and the Chinese search giant Baidu. And Microsoft has announced a multi-billion dollar investment in OpenAi.
