Rosatom proposed giving direct subsidies to car factories to cover part of the cost of buying Russian traction batteries for electric vehicles. The measure should reduce the price of electric cars and increase the demand for them.

Rosatom proposed giving subsidies to car factories for Russian batteries

Support may be needed until the end of 2028, until the battery components are localized in Russia, TVEL (part of Rosatom) explained to Kommersant.

The alleged source of subsidies is the federal budget, possibly including funds from the federal project “Electric Vehicle and Hydrogen Vehicle”.

Analysts back the company’s proposal, adding that China has achieved the world’s lowest battery price of $127 per 1 kWh and due to the scale of production.

In 2023, ITMO and Yablochkov created Russia’s first wireless charging system for electric vehicles and electric buses. The usage mechanism requires almost no human intervention. The system itself works using the MRI coupling method of the transmitter and receiver.
