For the first time in two years, the number of ATMs has increased in Russia. In the last quarter, there were 1.8 thousand more, a total of 173.5 thousand pieces. Experts explained the situation by the consequences of sanctions: banks are changing American devices to Korean and Chinese ones.
Information on the number of ATMs in Russia was provided by the Central Bank of the Russian Federation. At the end of 2022, the number of ATMs was 173.5 thousand.
During the last quarter, the number of ATMs increased by 1.8 thousand units; growth was recorded for the first time in two years. Previously, the number of ATMs was declining, falling 11%, or 22,000 units, in two years.
Experts explained the situation with the growth in the number of ATMs, including the consequences of sanctions: according to data for the spring of 2022, about 60% of devices operating in Russia were manufactured by American companies NCR and Diebold. nixdorf. These companies left the Russian market, making it difficult to reconfigure ATMs to work with the new 100-ruble note. Therefore, banks are trading American ATMs for their Korean and Chinese counterparts.
