The rapid development of ChatGPT in particular and generative AI (artificial intelligence) in general may lead to a serious restructuring of the job market both in the US and in other developed countries. In the United States, the consequences could affect up to 300 million jobs. Such forecasts were presented by the largest American investment bank Goldman Sachs, the main theses of the study are presented by Financial Time.

Generative AI development will affect 25% of jobs in developed economies – Goldman Sachs

On a global scale, generative AI could lead to the automation of a quarter of jobs in advanced economies.

As for the United States, according to the calculations of a credit institution, 30% of employees cannot worry about their position due to the introduction of artificial intelligence on a day-to-day basis. These are representatives of professions associated with physical labor. For 63% of American workers, the development of generative AI will be more of an advantage, since it will automate some tasks. And another 7% are likely to risk losing their seat.

First, lawyers and white-collar workers should think about their future careers, Goldman Sachs analysts say. AI is expected to primarily take on tasks such as completing returns for small businesses, evaluating insurance claims, or recording the results of a crime scene inspection.

At the same time, the participation of artificial intelligence in the formation of judicial decisions or the formulation of medical diagnoses is not yet discussed. Previously, in the US, a legal chatbot was not allowed to participate in a court session. The DoNotPay startup bot was supposed to advise the defendant in the event of an accident, however, the legal community bombarded the author of the service with threats of being held liable for practicing without the proper license.

The medical community also does not see a scenario where artificial intelligence could replace humans in the field. In February, OpenAI’s amazing ChatGPT passed the US Medical Licensing Exam with 52.4% to 75% correct answers. The pass rate is around 60%. At the same time, healthcare professionals tend to believe that AI is used more effectively in the development of medical education.

In general, according to the investment banking forecast, the development of generative artificial intelligence will mean a strong leap in productivity. If this scenario materializes, in 10 years, world GDP will grow by 7%.

The relevance of the technology is expected to contribute to the growth of interest from the investment community. Corporate investment in AI is increasing. If this growth continues and is compared to software investment in the 1990s in the US, investment in generative AI could reach 1% of US GDP by 2030.
