Shortly after ChatGPT gained worldwide users, Google announced a similar AI chatbot to compete with Open AI. Bard, in Portuguese, bardo is now available to users who join the waitlist and reside in the United States or the United Kingdom.
Google’s tool uses the speech-based neural language model LaMDA (Language Model for Dialogue Applications) to produce content and answer user questions, including articles, poems, stories, and more.
For now, no release date has been released in other countries, but the company has confirmed that it is developing versions of the chatbot in several languages - so it shouldn’t take long for an international launch. In fact, many users still do not understand why Google chose the name ‘Bard’ for the tool.
“Meet Bard, your creative and helpful contributor who is here to power your imagination, boost your productivity, and bring your ideas to life,” says Google.
What does the name of Google’s artificial intelligence mean?
In Portuguese, the word Bard is translated as ‘bard’ in different cultures of Europe – especially among the Celtic peoples – a type of poet, music composer and storyteller. The chatbot’s name is also a reference to the English poet William Shakespeare, nicknamed the “Bard of Avon”..
“Bard is an experiment that allows us to collaborate with our productive AI. As a creative and helpful contributor, Bard can fuel your imagination, boost your productivity and help you bring your ideas to life – whether you’re planning the perfect birthday party, preparing the invitation or for a party. Help build a pros and cons list. make a big decision or just understand really complex issues,” explains Google Bard on its website.
The word “bard” was also recognized worldwide as a class from the RPG (role-playing game) universe presented in the classic Dungeons & Dragons. The popularity of the RPG has also become a benchmark for electronic games, inspiring the creation of several popular characters from The Witcher series, such as the bard Jaskier.
