Europol said 288 suspects were arrested and more than 50.8 million euros ($53.4 million) in cash and virtual currency, 850 kg of drugs and 117 firearms were seized in a series of raids in several countries.
The operation, codenamed SpecTor, involved the cybercrime group of the Netherlands National Police.
“The information shared with us by Europol, such as transaction data and virtual currency addresses, has helped us launch new investigations and enrich existing investigations. Thus, we have identified and detained several important Dutch sellers,” said Nan van de Covering, head of the Dutch team. “The success of this operation demonstrates once again that international cooperation is essential to combat crime on the dark web.”
The drugs seized include more than 258 kg (569 lb) of amphetamines; 43 kilograms (95 pounds) of cocaine; 43 kilograms (95 pounds) MDMA; and more than 10 kilograms (22 pounds) of LSD and ecstasy tablets, the agency said.
According to Europol, the largest number of arrests – 153 – were made in the United States, followed by the UK – 55 and Germany – 52.
