In an interview with the German newspaper Bild, the head of the automaker, Ola Kallenius, emphasized the importance of the Chinese market for the German automotive industry.
Kallenius admitted that leaving China “would be unthinkable for almost all German industry”. At the same time, journalists reminded him that Mercedes-Benz was leaving Russia, but the head of the company noted that such a scenario was not considered for China.
The senior executive expressed the view that the main players of the global economy – Europe, the USA and China – should cooperate, not compete with each other.
Kallenius also answered the question about the possible backlog in the electric vehicles segment of the German auto industry. He emphasized that the Chinese electric vehicle market is dominated by low-cost cars and city cars, with more than 90% of sales coming from electric cars under $44,000.
