When the video is paused, the picture will shrink and an ad will appear next to it. The ad will consist of text and an image and may contain a QR code. Users can remove ads or resume video playback to return to the normal full-screen pause screen.

Previously, the YouTube recommendation algorithm was under close scrutiny, as a new report says it “directs” young children to videos of shooting scenes and other weapons-related material.
