The domestic game engine, which is being created with investment from VK, is called Nau Engine. This was reported to RB.RU by a representative of the project.

“Nau Engine’s hallmark will be meeting the needs of developers at every stage of the game’s creation and life. The engine will be created on the open source principle and is available to developers of any skill level.
Nau Engine will also provide a “powerful kernel with a convenient editor”, allow the creation of standard projects and ready-made game systems, and create interfaces for easy connection to popular services.
Additionally, the engine will reportedly provide access to tools for integrating with platforms and creating game metasystems: content updates, seasons, communities, leaderboards, and others.
- The start of work on the creation of the Russian game engine was announced in February 2023. Its production is carried out by an independent team, consisting of experts in the field of development and the gaming community. VK is the investor and curator of the project. Previously, the company estimated its investments in the development of the basic version of the domestic game engine at 1 billion rubles.
- The need to create a national engine arose after the imposition of sanctions and the departure of foreign gambling corporations from the Russian Federation. VK then announced plans to create an analogue of the Steam and Epic Games platforms.
