WhatsApp is working on such a feature that users are identified by their usernames. The new tool will eliminate the need to forward one person’s number to another as it will only be possible to be added to the app by username.

Information on the innovation was announced last Wednesday (24). WABetaInfo. The new feature is still in development and only those with WhatsApp Beta with the Android 2.23.11.15 update were able to see the previews.

Once the feature is available, app users will be able to choose unique usernames. So two different people cannot use the same nickname. See the image below that shows how the schematic might work.

In addition, according to the site, as seen in the image above, people will be able to choose their own username from the settings section and the “Profile” menu.

Security

One of the most important aspects of identifying by usernames is security. When the vehicle is started, people will no longer need to keep their phones around for others, which will guarantee more protection for the personal number.

Telegram, the main competitor of WhatsApp, already has such a feature. In the competitor application, it is possible to add people by username and even search for users by nicknames.
