The release of the first iPhone 16 years ago was a turning point in the history of technology and changed the way we use our smartphones forever. On June 29, 2007, the original iPhone was released in the United States and has since become an icon of innovation and revolutionary design.

At the launch event, Steve Jobs presented all the innovations brought by the iPhone.: unlocking the smartphone, scrolling through lists and texts, pinching images to zoom and much more.

Jobs credits Apple for inventing multi-touch, but history reveals that Finger Works has worked on this technology before. But the truth is that the iPhone has revolutionized the mobile device market. Instead of dividing a device between the display and the physical keyboard, Apple has created a product that focuses only on the screen and brings only a single button to the front.

Features of the first iPhone

The first iPhone had a touchscreen and 2G connectivity. It may even seem modest compared to modern iPhones packed with features.

The original iPhone’s 3.5-inch screen size and 320 x 480 pixel resolution were considered large for its time and provided a more immersive viewing experience compared to other phones on the market.

However, it is interesting to note that some features may seem rather limited nowadays. For example, the rear camera was only 2 megapixels and did not allow video recordingsomething that has become essential in the next generation of Apple mobile phones, which now have high-resolution cameras and advanced photo and video capabilities.

The device cost $499 at the time.

Another important point to be emphasized is that no App Store on the first iPhone. Apple’s virtual app store was only launched in 2008, a year after the first model was released.

Launch in Brazil

In Brazil, Apple’s debut in the world of smartphones did not occur with the release of the iPhone 2G, as in other countries. Brazilians were only able to experience the full revolution of the device with the launch of the iPhone 3G on September 26, 2008.
