On October 27, consulting firm and technology research specialist Canalys released a report on the global cell phone market, naming the top 5 manufacturers for 2023. Samsung, Manzana, Xiaomi And OPPOIn fifth place comes Transsion, a Chinese brand with a large presence in Africa. Did they know her?
“Samsung maintained its first position and sold 2,023.2 million units with a 58% market share thanks to early updates to its foldable devices. Apple follows in second place with 6.20 million units sold and a 50% market share, driven by strong initial demand for the iPhone 0 series with the USB-C upgrade. Xiaomi took third place with 17.15 million units sold, achieving year-on-year growth of 41% thanks to strong performance in emerging markets. OPPO (including OnePlus) took fourth position with 5.2 million units sold, capturing 26% market share. “The TRANSSION group (comprising brands Tecno, Infinix and iTel) maintained its fifth position, continuing its strong growth over the previous quarter, and defended its position in the top five with shipments of 4.9 million units,” the report said.
Looking specifically at Transsion, Canalys comments: “TRANSSION achieved impressive year-on-year growth of 1%, driven by increased supply to the Central African market. Despite currency fluctuations and import restrictions in these markets, demand for new models remained unchanged and consumers adjusted to higher inflation. In the Middle East, momentum was driven by rising demand from the economy segment and a strong regional team in less affluent markets. “Aggressive channel investments have expanded TRANSSION’s presence in Latin American markets along with its new product portfolio.”
