Qualcomm has a new chipset with cutting edge technology, but it may be cheaper for the end consumer. This Monday (18), the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 was introduced, and it has a clear focus: serving a demanding audience, but without charging as much as the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.

The new chipset’s proposition is to deliver premium experiences just like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 but below that top market range. The company even talks about creating a “new segment” in this advanced models category.

In practice, it is above the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 but below the 8th Gen 3. According to Qualcomm, the expectation is that it will serve mobile phones priced between US$ 500 (about R$ 2,400) and US$ 800 (R$ 3,900).

On the technical page we have a chipset with an octa-core Kryo CPU:

  • 1 main core: 3.4GHz up to 3.0GHz

  • 4 performance cores: 2.8GHz 3.2GHz

  • 3 efficiency cores: 2.0GHz 2.3GHz

For comparison purposes, the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 has one main core clocked up to 3.4GHz, 5 performance cores clocked up to 3.2GHz, and two efficiency cores clocked up to 2.3GHz.

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 also brings artificial intelligence

The company also attaches great importance to the development of artificial intelligence (AI) through its chipset. The new Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 supports large language models (LLMs) with up to 10 billion parameters, such as Baichuan-7B, Llama 2, and Gemini Nano, and these models are expected to bring more AI features to mobile devices.

Among the capabilities, mobile phones compatible with 8s Gen 3 will be able to take better photos in low-light scenarios; It has AI rendering capabilities; As well as introducing AI-based virtual assistants.

The new chipset also includes the X70 5G modem with FastConnect 7800 chip compatible with Wi-Fi 7, supports cameras up to 200 MP and has a triple 18-bit image signal processor (ISP).

There are improvements for games as well. Qualcomm reinforces that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 comes with real-time ray tracing acceleration to increase the level of realism in compatible games. It is also compatible with Quad HD+ resolution displays with a refresh rate of up to 144 Hz.
