The association that Xiaomi Leica signed in May last year has already begun to bear its first fruits. Asian manufacturer announced Xiaomi 12S Ultrathe first device that comes under this a “long-term strategic collaboration” whose goal is to significantly improve the photographic part of the brand’s mobile phones and thus compete with other firms that are also committed to working with companies specializing in the production of optics. Among them are OnePlus and Oppo, with Hasselblado Vivo, with Zeiss. All this, moreover, without neglecting the rest of the most important areas in the premium mobile lineup.
In fact, Xiaomi 12S Ultra comes with SoC. Snapdragon 8 Generation 1+ under the hood. It is a 4nm architecture chip with a CPU and GPU that is 10% more powerful than its predecessor. At the same time, it is accompanied by 8 or 12 GB of RAM, as well as versions with 256 or up to 512 GB of internal memory. On the other hand, its battery has a capacity of 4860 mAh and includes its own chip called Pengpai G1, which is responsible for optimizing the device and extending its lifespan. The battery is also responsible for power 6.73″ AMOLED panel, which reaches a resolution of 1440 x 1300 pixels (what we would call QHD+) as well as a 120Hz refresh rate which is also adaptive.
The company has implemented LTPO technology, which allows you to control the refresh rate depending on what is playing on the screen. If the panel does not detect motion, for example because the user is viewing an image, the refresh rate drops to a minimum level to conserve battery power. If, on the other hand, the screen detects motion, the system quickly adapts the refresh rate and, if necessary, increases it to 120 Hz to improve the user experience with the terminal.
Cameras: Xiaomi welcomes Leica
However, the main feature of the Xiaomi 12S Ultra is its camera. In fact, the company wants to give it such notoriety that even the appearance of the terminal is distinguished by a huge photomodule located on the back side. This seems to mimic a sort of traditional camera, including, in addition, a finish that seems to mimic the texture that covers the body of Leiva cameras.
From a technical point of view, the company has opted for a triple main lens with a configuration very similar to that of other smartphones. And, in addition, with sensors that clearly reflect what type of smartphone we are talking about. The main camera, in particular, has 1″ Sony IMX989 sensor – higher than other manufacturers – and a resolution of 50 megapixels. The ultra wide-angle lens, which reaches 128º, on the other hand, has a resolution of 48 megapixels. The same resolution for the periscope lens, which can take pictures at 5x optical zoom and up to 120x digital zoom.
However, In what areas can cooperation with Leica be appreciated? The German lens and camera manufacturer has contributed to improving photographic results with the various modes available in the app. Also through processing improvements and new lens additions. One of them is the coating, which takes up most of the PV module and avoids the reflections that usually result when shooting images with a lot of light.
