Foldable mobile phones have reduced their price significantly since their debut in the market. However, today there are still no mobile phones with flexible screens that are as economical as, for example, the Xiaomi 14T. And everything points to this we won’t see anything like this. At least not from Samsung.
After launching the Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition, a sort of beefed-up version of the Galaxy Z Fold 6 with a bigger screen, better cameras and a more refined design, Samsung has confirmed SamMobile which has no plans to release a foldable device at a lower price. “Instead of looking at [al Galaxy Z Fold Special Edition] A premium product designed to enhance your capabilities. You can choose according to your taste. From now on, we have no plans to release a separate product with a lower price“, the company emphasizes.
This confirmation contrasts with rumors that have been circulating for months now, which suggested that the company was working on a cost-effective foldable device. Samsung’s cheapest model at the moment is the Z Flip 6, which has an official retail price of €1,209.
Samsung’s strategy: make better foldable devices while maintaining price
Samsung says it intends to maintain prices for current models as they include new and better technologies. An example of this is the Galazy Z Fold Special Edition, as it costs almost the same as the Z Fold 6, but with some other internal improvements to make it thinner and improve photographic performance.
The problem is that these technological improvements are not passed down from generation to generation. The Galaxy Z Fold 6 is almost identical to the Z Fold 5.except for some small usual changes such as the processor or a larger, albeit minor, battery.
Meanwhile, companies such as Oppo, Xiaomi or Motorola They release foldable smartphones with a slightly lower price, and with better progress. For example, the recently launched Razr 50, which costs €899, has a much more advanced external screen than the Galaxy Z Flip 6, which, we recall, costs €1,209. Samsung also has to fix many of the issues that other brands have already addressed, such as marks on the curvature of the screen or the excessive thickness of its foldable devices.
There is, of course, still time for the South Korean company to turn things around and release a cheap foldable model to combat increasingly tough competition. However, if this happens, we will have to wait until the middle of next year.
