There have been rumors for weeks that Samsung will keep Exynos processors for the Galaxy S25. Some leaks suggest that the South Korean company will rely on MediaTek to boost the performance of its next high-end device. Nevertheless, Samsung is not ready to say goodbye to its chipss, even if it means sacrificing productivity.

The latest report indicates that Samsung is having difficulty producing its chips. South Korean media note that The yield of the 3nm casting process is less than 20%.. This situation puts Samsung in a difficult position as it won’t have enough time to meet demand for the Galaxy S25 SoC and the chips it makes for third parties.

Although the report does not mention the Galaxy S25, there are rumors that Exynos 2500 will be produced using a 3nm process technology.. Samsung will not depend on this chip as the candidate to power the mobile phone is still the Snapdragon 8 Elite. The tech company may pursue a dual-chip strategy in some countries, as it has done in previous launches.

Samsung’s dream of becoming the number one foundry in the world seems distant. Although sales were up 78% year-on-year, Samsung Foundry’s performance fell short of market expectations. In this regard, South Korean is already thinking about ending alliances with HSMC to ensure the production of AI-centric HBM4 memory.

By choosing the Exynos 2500, you not only risk losing money on production, but also being criticized for its performance.

Galaxy S25 with Exynos 2500 won’t be as powerful after all

Information about problems in the casting process appeared a few hours after the Exynos 2500 benchmark was leaked. Geekbench The assigned Galaxy S25+ shows the processor performance in various tests with surprising results. The numbers are much lower than what the Snapdragon 8 Elite offers.which makes us wonder if releasing the Galaxy S25 with Exynos 2500 would be the best solution.

Samsung Galaxy S25+ (Exynos 2500) Samsung Galaxy S25 Ultra (Snapdragon 8 Elite)
Single core test 2359 3069
Multi-core test 8141 9080

If producing a chip that performs sub-par is causing problems (and losing money), the most logical solution would be to go with Qualcomm. Galaxy S25 will be presented in January 2025so Samsung is forced to make a decision soon. Until this happens, we will have to wait for official confirmation or tests that will be published in the coming weeks.
