launch Pixel fold, Google’s first foldable mobile phone, will be just around the corner. He a leak John Prosser, who has been featured in all recent Mountain View releases, uncovered not only when the device will be presented, but also from what date it will become publicly available.
As published on Twitter, the announcement of the Pixel Fold will take place next May 10. The date is certainly not surprising given that it coincides with Google I/O. In fact, there have been rumors for months that a foldable mobile phone could be unveiled at the California firm’s traditional event.
However, the ratification of the date is not unimportant. Especially since it comes with very important details about its availability. According to Prosser, the Pixel Fold will be available for pre-order from the same day through the Google Store. For now, pre-sales through partners and carriers – at least in the US – will be from May 30th. Finally, the device will be available to everyone from June 27.
As for the technical characteristics, there is no serious news about the device yet. In November 2022, Jon Prosser himself revealed renders based on the actual design of the Pixel Fold, confirming a form factor similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold line. However, the hardware specifications table remains a mystery.
Let’s not forget that Google has been working on this foldable mobile phone for several years, to the point where there were rumors that it was cancelled. And the durability of the project can be judged by some aspects of the device, for example, with bulky bezels around the inner panel, or with an internal camera not hidden under the screen.
According to Prosser, the Pixel Fold will be made of glass and metal, will be available in two colors – black and white – and will sell for $1799. It remains to be seen if Google will offer the foldable model in regular Pixel markets or if it will bet on a more global strategy.
Pixel Fold to be unveiled at Google I/O 2023, but not alone
The Pixel Fold won’t be the only major hardware announcement Google will make at I/O 2023. In another tweet, Jon Prosser indicated that during the event Pixel 7a will also be officially unveiled, whose design was leaked in the final months of 2022. The new mobile phone will be available in four colors: charcoal, snow, blue and coral; the latter is only available through the Google Store. It is important to note that the Pixel 6a, introduced in 2022, will not be discontinued.
The Pixel 7a will not only be announced at a Google event scheduled for next month, but will go on sale the same day. At the moment, there has been no mention of its possible price, although it is assumed that maybe less than 500 euros.
It remains to be seen if Google will surprise, beyond the Pixel Fold and Pixel 7a, with the introduction of any new hardware. Let’s not forget that during I / O 2022, the Californians “leaked” the announcements of the Pixel Watch, Pixel Tablet and Pixel 7 and 7 Pro from the stage, which were officially presented a few months later.
Consider that in December, Google’s roadmap for launching until 2025 appeared. And the first ones have already appeared. renders from Pixel 8 Pro; so it wouldn’t be unusual for a company select some details again before its official introduction. We will closely follow the news.
