Sony’s new IMX800 camera sensor will be available first on Honor 70 series phones. The sensor is on the wide side for a 1/1.49 inch phone sensor. The resolution is 54 megapixels at a ratio of 8,768 by 6,144. This is an unusual ratio (137:96). 16:11 will likely be used when used for video, and 4:3 for stills. This helps to optimize the incidence of light.

Pixels are 1 micrometer, but they can pretend to be larger using a technique called “binning”; The four adjacent pixels then act as a 2 micrometer pixel, thus capturing more light. The IMX800 is the successor to the IMX766 and is expected to perform better in low light conditions and provide better image quality.
