Micron has announced the world’s first microSD card with a maximum storage capacity of 1.5TB. The i400 is geared towards industrial applications and video surveillance, among other things: by its own account, the 1.5TB variant can store continuous surveillance footage for up to four months.

Memory cards use Micron’s 176-layer 3D Nand and have a U3 speed rating indicating a minimum sequential disk speed of 30MB/s. In addition, they fall into the A2 class, which guarantees random reads of 4,000 iops as well as random writes of 2,000 iops.

The product page claims a lifespan of 2 million hours, plus they should last up to five years in continuous use – provided the operating temperature is maintained between -25°C and 85°C. They also need to be able to process eight ‘artificial intelligence actions’ per second.

The manufacturer provides different capacities from 64 GB to 1.5 TB. Since this product line is not targeted at the average consumer, suggested retail prices have not been disclosed.
