While the new in-app tool will provide parents with information about their children, the content of their conversations will remain secret. It is a feature specially designed by snap in front of Snapchat and reflects the way parents interact with their children in real life, with parents usually knowing who their children are friends with and when they are around, but not eavesdropping on their private conversations.

A feature that is not yet available, but will be added in a future update, is a new option that allows parents see all new friends who have added their kids in Snapchat. In addition, through the Family Center, parents can report all accounts that may be directly relevant to Snap’s Trust and Safety team,

Additionally, additional resources are available to parents and teens using Family Center, enabling them to have open conversations about online safety.

And last but not least, Snap has announced that more features will be added to the Family Center this fall, including new content control for parents and the ability for teens to notify their parents when they report an account or content through Snapchat. These tools will have enormous potential to make the online lives of minors safer, who are always and constantly at risk when browsing social networks.
