According to new research published in the scientific journal nature, pandemic caused by Covid-19 Responsible for nearly 15 million deaths worldwide by the end of 2021.

Altogether, the researchers’ estimate is nearly three times higher than the officially announced death figures in 2022. For example, at the end of 2021, the World Health Organization (WHO) published a list based on reports from different countries, it is recording. 5.4 million deaths and 300 million infections. However, the researchers caution that these numbers are underestimated.

Examining the numbers recorded in 2020 and 2021, researchers announced 14.86 million deaths related to the virus. According to the study, the official average is lower because the numbers in each country can be tracked accurately – they claim that only 50% of countries provide more accurate data.

The research relied on mathematical models to account for possible numbers, and therefore they found that the level of death even exceeded the average caused by the influenza virus in 1957, 1968 and 2009.

Covid-19 deaths in 2022

“To put these estimates in context, the leading cause of death in 2019 was ischemic heart disease with 8.9 million deaths. Currently, no information is available on the leading causes of death during the pandemic years, but COVID-19 is the leading cause of death in 2020. We expect it to be among the leading causes of death in 2021.

As the survey did not address this year’s data, the death toll is likely to reach 30 million already, as many countries are suffering from high death rates by the first months of 2022.

Fortunately, we can’t forget that vaccines are responsible for the dramatic reduction in deaths caused by covid-19. A study published in the United States alone last month estimated that vaccination prevented more than three million deaths.
