Cartagena Corazón de María Educational Institution regrets the student’s departure Andrés Mauricio Vega, who died a week before the Icfes Saber 11 Test results were published.

The 16-year-old was just days away from graduating high school. He switched schools with his job as an altar server at San Francisco de Asís Parish.

His death occurred while he was with some friends on the beaches of the Crespo neighborhood of the capital of Bolivar.

From the preliminary versions, young people were playing football. Vega entered the water after the ball and a current dragged her away. His friends managed to return to land but were unable to help him.

Aid agencies and the public searched relentlessly for him until they found him strangled in the La Bocana area.

Eight days after his death, the results of the Saber 11 Tests administered by the Colombian Institute for Educational Evaluation (Icfes) to thousands of students in the country were announced.

The educational community described him as an exemplary and intelligent child; He was looking forward to learning about the qualifications he showed in the exam and his results.

“With deep pain, we convey our sincere condolences to the Vega Julio family on the sensitive death of our student Andrés Mauricio Vega Julio. We ask God Almighty to express his condolences to the entire family and colleagues during this very difficult time,” the institution expressed.

The Congregation of San Francisco de Asís, where he is an altar boy, also expressed solidarity with his relatives.: “Andrés, for your lifetime of service, for the YES you have given to God since the age of 10 and affirmed every day, we can only remember the beautiful moments we shared with you and the confidence you have now found in a better place.”

Vega’s death joined those of 17-year-old Daniel Graterol and 13-year-old José Luna.

Graterol died in similar circumstances on October 28, when a current swept him away while swimming in the Chiamaría 2 canal in Cartagena’s El Pozón neighborhood.

While authorities prepared to recover Graterol’s body, Luna and her friends went swimming in the swamp. The current carried away the 13-year-old boy. Although they managed to pull him out of the water, he was taken to hospital without vital signs.

The Cartagena Advisory Office for Risk Management (OAGRD) insisted that the community avoid these practices: Do not jump into the stream or swim in unauthorized places as this poses maximum risk to your life.
