Mario Bastidas Hernández appeared before the prosecutor’s office on Tuesday morning and explained the details of how an argument with his partner ended in tragedy.

His surrender to authorities came hours after 22-year-old Yisney Juliana Gómez Escobar was found dead in her room in Santa Marta.

In his statement to the prosecutor’s office, Bastidas Hernández admitted that he caused the woman’s death. He stated that it was an accident, unlike the first version.

Their lawyer, César Cadena, explained that after a heart-to-heart meeting, they both got into a violent fight that ranged from verbal to physical assaults.

The defense of the confessed femicide said: “He said he hit her in the face several times and his reaction was to grab her by the neck, without measuring her strength, until she had no vital signs.”

Mario Bastidas claimed that the fight broke out because Yisney Gómez was harassing him, and although he did not want to continue the relationship due to her activity in creating and selling adult content, constant arguments continued.

The tragedy occurred while Yisney Gómez was at Mario Bastidas’ house.

When he realized that the woman was unconscious, he tried to resuscitate her and, according to his lawyer, he even considered committing suicide, but eventually moved to the town of Minca, where his uncle lived.

Mario Bastidas was handed over to the authorities under pressure from his relative, who was summoned by the alleged victim’s relatives to threaten him.
During the interrogation, Bastidas recorded a video asking for forgiveness from his former partner’s family.

Although they were in a relationship until November 2023, he says they are now friends and agrees to take part in erotic videos he markets through social networks.

This Wednesday, a hearing will be held to legalize the arrest, bring charges and implement security measures.
