Journalist Juan Fernando Barona, working for ‘Canal Uno’, has been removed from the Egyptian media outlet and the group of journalists that follow the president. for his complaint against him for allegedly brutally beating a woman.

The images sparked outrage among netizens. One of them even wrote: “@NoticiasUno We demand action IMMEDIATELY. Journalist Juan Fernando Barona, who was recently in Egypt and covered Petro at the United Nations Climate Change COP 27 meeting, would have violated his partner,” they posted in a thread on Twitter.

When the video went viral on social media, the man was in Egypt, The journalist was ‘Noticias Uno’ ambassador to report on Gustavo Petro’s participation in COP27.
However, after possible evidence goes viral, The Presidency made a statement that Barona was removed from the event.
“As a result of the known complaints regarding gender-based violence against journalist Juan Fernando Barona, the Presidency has contacted Noticias UNO and its director to inform that this collaborator will be removed from the group of journalists reporting on the president,” the Presidency said.
And I add: “The return process will be undertaken by the media outlet and the Colombian Embassy in Egypt. shall be responsible for any additional requirements of the citizen”.

Meanwhile, Jorge Acosta, director of ‘Noticias Uno’, He explained what had happened and said that the journalist involved was fired.
“As of now Juan Fernando Barona is not part of Noticias Uno,” he wrote on his Twitter account.
“Tonight, the management and editorial teams learned about the serious footage circulating on social networks. Mr. Barona has the right to defend himself in due time.”
