Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Meta and founder of Facebook, made a post announcing the new feature, warning.

“New update for end-to-end encrypted Messenger chats so you’ll be notified if someone catches a disappearing message” Zuckerberg wrote, showing a screenshot of his conversation with his wife, Pamela Chan.

It should be noted that for a while, Facebook Messenger’s functions include ‘Disappear Mode’, which includes private messages that disappear after the recipient reads the message and leaves the chat.

The notification feature for this ‘Disappear Mode’ is activated by swiping up on the call. Reverse movement allows to return to normal mode.

“We designed Disappear Mode with safety and choice in mind, so you’re in control of your experience,” said Bridget Pujals, Messenger Product Manager, in November 2020 when the feature became available.

On the other hand, Zuckerberg announced that the option to send stickers and GIFs will be added to the new features of Messenger.
