A murder occurred this Wednesday morning. 53rd street and Caracas street, In the town of Teusaquillo in Bogota. The victim was looking for accommodation when she was attacked by unknown persons.
The killer tried to flee the scene after committing the crime, but the quick reaction of witnesses to the incident allowed him to be detained and later handed over to the Bogota Metropolitan Police.
Major Miller Rojar Rubio, commander of the Teusaquillo Police Station, It was reported that the person who lost his life as a result of various blows with a firearm had twenty criminal records. “He had a history of illegal weapon possession, drug trafficking, threats, qualified theft, and damage to someone else’s property.”
The perpetrator is a 17-year-old person with a criminal record.. “Thanks to the timely information the congregation gave us, we were able to identify the suspect a few blocks later, and after investigating the charges against him and examining the characteristics of the witnesses, we were able to apprehend him. He is carrying a briefcase and a pistol-type firearm with ammunition in it”.
Küçük was brought to the Adolescent Judicial Services Center (Cespa) with the report of the elements found and the statements of those who witnessed the murder.
As the prosecution explained, 36 people lost their lives this year in the midst of a murder product by hitmen. A common element concerns them all: the lack of clarity about the motives of their murders and the lull that the criminals took for their lives, as seen in the complaint videos.
The crossing of accounts between criminal gangs or the dispute over control of Bogotá areas where the business of crime or micro-trafficking is gaining more and more ground are some of the explanations made by the authorities for the growth of this phenomenon in the city.
In context: Murders by hitmen in Bogotá have increased by 24% in the last three years.
According to statistics provided by the Prosecutor’s Office, this year alone, there were 39 cases of contract killings in Bogotá, distributed in the 5 regions with the highest rates of security problems: first, Ciudad Bolivar, with 21.05 percent cases with total representation percentage, the most affected settlement with 8 murders; followed by Rafael Uribe Uribe, where the last murder was committed, reporting 7 cases and 18.42 percent of the total.
Third, fourth, and fifth were Kennedy, Engativá, and Bosa, each with three cases and an incidence of 7.89 percent. The neighborhoods with the highest rates of reported murders by contract killers include María Paz, Santa Fe, La Favorita, Sierra Morena and Marco Fidel Suárez.
However, the phenomenon seems more serious than it sounds, as growth has been 24 percent over the past three years, increasing from 300 hitmen in 2019 to 372 by the end of 2021. The figure for 2020 was 321.
For Andrés Nieto, a security expert, understanding hit men means being clear that this is a criminal and social phenomenon that is no longer just concentrated in major criminal structures, but is also involved in criminal gangs and communities. More and more citizens are accessing such services, i.e. hiring gangs to settle accounts, settle debts, or for any revenge process between family members, acquaintances or friends”.
Faced with this case, José Manuel Martínez, Director of the Prosecution Branch of Bogota, told EL TIEMPO in an interview, “There is one type of murder of great importance in Bogota, and there is this type of murder. Crime analysis division of CTI and Sijín analysts and by hitmen. This number of murders worries National Attorney General Francisco Barbosa, because there is a causality in some criminal phenomenon of many hitmen, which could be micro-trafficking or theft.”
According to officials, this phenomenon is directly related to the growth of other crime patterns, such as micro-trafficking, which leads to “the growth of murders or purges within the same criminal organizations, or the growth of murders to mark power in a particular city”, as Nieto assures.
